In 2007, I took a trip to Guyana that literally changed my life. What started as a 10-day Eco-Tour turned into me watching my group fly away as I stayed behind to volunteer.
I spent the next two months in a village, teaching and fixing computers. When I finally returned to my IT Manager position, it no longer felt like the way I was intended to live. I put my resignation letter in less than 6 months later.
Guyana taught me that my skills (IT/Systems) didn’t have to be tied to a desk. They could be my ticket to the world.

The trip to Guyana in 2007 made me see the reality of life that I did not see while working an IT job in the USA. Being in the #AmazonJungle, knowing that I was prey to the Jaguar and predator to the Piranha, changed my perception of the world.
Walking trails through the jungle and being in the presence of waterfalls that less than a dozen foreigners have witnessed opened my eyes to the expanses of the world that seemed untouchable to me sitting at a desk.
Upon returning from this trip, all I wanted was to sit under the tree outside my office; but this was not acceptable for my job. Transitioning from the real jungle to the confines of the concrete jungle made me understand that actual life was not about your wealth or status. Life is meant to be lived, enjoyed, and every moment cherished.
The true life of A Wandering Vagabond began in this jungle, overlooking the waterfall that provided life to the inhabitants below.
